Asplenium scolopendrium ‘Angustifolium’
Narrow Hart's Tongue Fern
An eye-catching cultivar of the British native evergreen fern with slender, glossy pale emerald fronds which ripple and undulate at their edges.
Asplenium scolopendrium ‘Angustifolium’ provides interest all year round and is brilliant for bringing light to shady borders and large pots.
Asplenium scolopendrium is native to Europe and is widespread in most of the UK, other than in the north.
Known commonly as the ‘Narrow Hart’s Tongue Fern’, the character of the fronds’ crinkled margins is perfect to provide textural interest to a shaded part of the garden.
This common name derives from the shape of the fronds which are said to resemble the tongue of a ‘hart’ – an old English word meaning deer.
Care & Size Guidance
Asplenium scolopendrium ‘Angustifolium’ can tolerate brighter and drier conditions than many other ferns once established, but to reach its full potential it must be planted in moist woodland-like conditions.
