Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

The massive leaves of the umbrella ficus require cleaning every so often to remove dust build-up, either using a damp cloth or giving the plant a quick shower with tepid water.

In the wild, the plant can reach impressive heights, however when kept as a houseplant it won’t outgrow its space.

Prefers a bright spot, away from direct sunlight.

The plant prefers that the soil dries out a bit between watering. More mature plants can withstand longer periods of dryness.

Use a fast draining mix, like cactus and succulent mix. Fertilise once a month in the warm months to support green, lush growth.

Expert Tip

The Ficus umbellata grows quite fast and bends towards the light (phototropism). To keep the growth straight, make sure to rotate the plant every other week by 90 degrees.
