Plant Biography

Whilst it can flower, the real focal point of this plant is its unusual foliage. The pale green textured leaves shimmer with glittery silver stripes on either side of the midrib, while the underside of the leaves provide pleasantly contrasting deep purple hues.

The stellate hairs on the tops of the leaves, and purple colouring which courses through its green stems, contribute to Tradescantia zebrina ‘Purpusii’s otherworldly presence.

Tradescantia zebrina ‘Purpusii’ is a relatively easy plant to look after. Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry, and don’t leave the pot sitting in water.

This dramatic species from Central and South America can reach up to 50cm long, perfect for use as a trailing plant on a shelf, or hung from a hanging pot.

Additionally, it is a very easy plant to propagate from cuttings in water, and can also be acclimatised to outdoor life for the summer if desired.
