Stipa tenuissima ‘Ponytails’
Mexican feather grass
A lovely perennial semi-evergreen grass with fine green and straw coloured foliage. Mexican Feathergrass can visually soften any spot with full sun to partial shade.
Stipa tenuissima ‘Ponytails’ features gently arching light green foliage that forms wispy tufts at the top that have a feather-like appearance.
With a native range of South Central USA, to Mexico and Argentina, Stipa tenuissima grows in open rocky scrublands and woods in mountainous regions.
This is well behaved and tactile plant is deservedly popular with designers.
Care & Size Guidance
Plant Stipa tenuissima in evenly moist soil with good drainage, in a position that receives full sun to partial shade and it should thrive.
Cut old foliage back in late winter before new growth begins in spring to keep up its stunning appearance.
