Plant Biography
Known until recently under the name Rosmarinus officinalis, the common rosemary has been reclassified in 2017 as a species of Salvia.
This beautiful and tough evergreen aromatic herb with pretty china blue flowers has a rich history of culinary and medicinal importance. It tolerates part shade, but thrives in full sun and good drainage and can be clipped regularly to keep compact or grown to full 2m maturity.
Salvia rosmarinus is almost too familiar to describe – evergreen woody herb with pointed dark green leaves and china-blue flowers in spring. Long used as a herb for flavouring meat and stews, Sunday Lamb wouldn’t taste the same without it.
Care Size & Guidance
Away from the kitchen Rosemary is a valuable evergreen plant for the Mediterranean style garden. It is completely drought proof and can be trained or shaped into any situation.
Flowers are welcome in spring and intermittently through summer and the aroma on a hot sunny summer day can transport your mind to warmer climes in a way few other plants are capable of.
