Plant Biography

Chinese Wild Ginger is an evergreen perennial with large, grey-green, broadly arrow-shaped leaves that are irregularly mottled and splodged with silver, grey and cream, strongly reminiscent of cyclamen leaves. Hidden amongst the foliage, in late spring, are sumptuous velvety looking mauve flowers with deep maroon and white middles – worth looking for! Given sufficient moisture, Asarum splendens is an easy, slow-spreading ground cover whose delicately exotic looks belie its robust nature.
