Plant Biography

Native to South Korea and Japan, in the wild it grows in damp woodland areas, frequently found forming dense thickets in open areas.

It its native surroundings in China it has been used in traditional medicine for asthma and coughs, and the leaves have even been used as an aphrodisiac.

In the garden, smaller canes are often plaited together for use as screening. The culms make an excellent wind break for windy gardens as they slow windspeeds without creating turbulence.

Care & Size Guidance

Pseudosasa japonica is a very tolerant bamboo, useful for creating screens in shaded areas against fences or under the shade of trees. It’s also suitable for container growing.

Pseudosasa japonica absolutely requires installation of root barrier to prevent it from becoming invasive, which you can find in the Accessories category.

Was a little dubious ordering a plant unseen, however I neednt have worried. My bamboo came on schedule, very well packaged and much better, bigger and healthier than I could have expected. Very happy customer and already recommended The Palm Centre to family and friends
