Verbena bonariensis ‘Lollipop’

Purple top 'Lollipop'

From: £9.95

Verbena bonariensis ‘Lollipop’ is a more compact cultivar of the species V. bonariensis that boasts all of the same long-flowering capabilities, but on a lower-growing plant. Ideal for smaller gardens or container displays. Violet-mauve, tightly packed flower heads held on wiry upright stems, these are extremely popular with pollinators and a wonderful choice for a sunny, dry spot. Max height x spread: 100x100cm.

Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

Verbena bonariensis ‘Lollipop’ is a striking perennial plant known for its slender stems topped with clusters of small, lavender-purple flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it ideal for borders, cottage gardens, or wildlife-friendly spaces. Growing up to approximately 50-100cm in height, this dwarf cultivar of Verbena adds vertical interest without overwhelming other plantings.

It is drought-tolerant once established and requires minimal care, though deadheading spent blooms can encourage prolonged flowering. Cut back old growth in late winter or early spring to promote vigorous regrowth. Verbena bonariensis ‘Lollipop’ can also self-seed, creating natural drifts of its elegant, nectar-rich blooms, although they may not come true from seed and revert back to the taller species.
