Cupressocyparis leylandii is a hybrid between Monterey Cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) of the Pacific Coast of North America and Nootka Cypress (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis) of Alaska and British Columbia. The cultivar ‘Gold Rider’ was selected for its unique golden foliage and introduced in the late 20th century by Dutch horticulturists.
