Heavy Duty Corten Steel Trough

From: £375.00

Corten steel containers lend a stunning, architectural dimension to your planting schemes with their russet, industrial surface and bold shapes. These heavy-duty troughs are made from premium grade Corten steel. They are supplied un-weathered, meaning that the classic, rusted finish hasn’t fully developed yet. The attractive patina will continue to mature for up to 36 months. You can speed the process up by spraying with a mix of vinegar and salt water.

These troughs have built in feet (see photo) to raise them off the ground, as well as pre-drilled drainage holes.

Available in a variety of shapes and sizes, Corten steel planters will enhance any location and really show off your plants.

COR-TEN

Corten (or more correctly, COR-TEN) is an alloy steel which weathers to a beautiful rusted finish without compromising the structure of the planter.

Corten steel was developed in the 1930’s in the USA when the United States Steel Corporation patented a steel alloy for use in railroad carriages.

When exposed to the elements, Corten steel forms a protective coating through a process called weathering. This is what results in the attractive russet finish which has made them so popular.
