Plant Biography

Native to China, Phyllostachys bissetti is one of the smaller Phyllostachys species on the market and is suitable for container growing, making it more appropriate than some other bamboos for smaller sized gardens.

Furthermore, when planted in the ground it is particularly cold hardy, so is a great choice for gardens in colder areas of the UK, where it will continue to look good throughout winter.

Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

Phyllostachys bissetti is one of the best behaved bamboos which looks great all year round.

Despite having a smaller ultimate height than many other bamboo, it can still reach about 6 metres tall in cultivation, so is nonetheless a good choice for most screening uses.

Phyllostachys bissetti requires the installation of root barrier to prevent it from becoming invasive.

A fantastic choice of bamboo. I settled on this one as I want it to spread and look full. It arrived as indicated and well wrapped.

Ordered 3 Bissetti, arrived in good condition and taller than I thought they would be. Will use the Palm Centre again.

I purchased two of these bamboo plants, along with two jasmine plants. All plants arrived in good time and I was pleased with them- they looked healthy and were bigger than I expected them to be. They look great potted. The customer service was excellent and Robert was very helpful. I am sure I will be ordering more items in the near future!

I was so pleased with the first plant that I had to order a second. Both are healthy, lovely specimens. Great customer and courier service too. Thank you!
