Plant Biography

Asplenium scolopendrium is native to Europe and is widespread in most of the UK, other than in the north.

Known commonly as the ‘Narrow Hart’s Tongue Fern’, the character of the fronds’ crinkled margins is perfect to provide textural interest to a shaded part of the garden.

This common name derives from the shape of the fronds which are said to resemble the tongue of a ‘hart’ – an old English word meaning deer.

Care & Size Guidance

Asplenium scolopendrium ‘Angustifolium’ can tolerate brighter and drier conditions than many other ferns once established, but to reach its full potential it must be planted in moist woodland-like conditions.

Fantastic ferns, planted amongst many other ferns and tree fern, all purchased from the palm centre that I have been planting out over the last couple of months.
