Plant Biography
Blechnum brasiliense was discovered in Brazil, hence its name, but can be found across warm and humid tropical forests across South America, up to Central Mexico.
Known as the Dwarf Brazilian Tree Fern because of its trunk forming habit, the potential of this plant to survive in UK climates with only a little protection has more recently been realised.
The ‘Volcano’ cultivar have derived from parent plant with particularly bright red new fronds and looks particularly stunning as a container specimen.
Expert Tip
Care & Size Guidance
This fern is best grown in a greenhouse to ensure it is kept away from frost, but can survive well in all but the coldest parts of the UK so long as it is in a wind-sheltered position and is protected from frost with fleece jackets.
If kept as an indoor plant, make sure to water more as new frond fiddleheads emerge and unfurl.
Beautiful plant arrived, excellent condition, excellent packaging, no signs of damage at all and clearly looked after very well both at nursery and during transit. Item showed up exactly as described. Very happy!
