Miscanthus sinensis ‘Zebrinus’
Miscanthus sinensis ‘Zebrinus’, commonly known as Zebra Grass, is a captivating ornamental grass that brings dynamic appeal to landscapes. Standing at approximately 1-1.5 metres tall, its upright growth showcases striking horizontal bands across the leaves, resembling zebra stripes. In summer, graceful plumes emerge, transitioning from pinkish hues to creamy white, creating a stunning contrast against the foliage.
This deciduous grass forms clumps that sway gracefully in the wind, adding movement to garden beds and borders. Zebra Grass thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. With its distinct appearance and low-maintenance nature, ‘Zebrinus’ is a favored choice for adding texture, height, and visual interest to gardens throughout the seasons.

Feeding the grasses
Grasses, in general, have really low requirements for fertilisers. They can thrive in any soil, as long as it’s well drained.
For a thriving garden, a high nitrogen, slow release fertiliser is encouraged. Feed with slow release bamboo fertiliser twice a year to encourage strong healthy plants.
Care & Size Guidance
Caring for Miscanthus sinensis ‘Zebrinus’, or Zebra Grass, is fairly straightforward. Plant it in a location that receives full sun and ensure well-draining soil. Regular watering during the establishment phase is essential, but once established, it can tolerate dry conditions.
In late winter or early spring, trim back the previous year’s growth to a few inches above the ground to make way for new growth. This pruning also prevents the clump from becoming overcrowded. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. With minimal care, Zebra Grass will flourish, adding its unique texture and visual appeal to your landscape.
