Rozanne geranium

£11.95

Geranium ‘Rozanne’ is a clump forming, rather than vigorously spreading, Cranesbill growing into a dome of frilly dark green leaves, blotched with yellow-green, over which are held exquisite large (5cm across!) violet blue flowers with pale centres and a network of reddish veining spread throughout the petals.

Not only are the flowers amongst the finest in the genus, they are borne from June right through until the first frosts.

It will turn heads when planted en masse and gives flowerbeds and walkways a certain panache when used as a border.

Plant Biography

Geranium is a genus of 422 species of flowering plants found throughout the temperate regions of the world and the mountains of the tropics.

The genus name is derived from the Greek géranos meaning ‘crane’. The common name is ‘cranesbill’, which is a reference to the shape of the seed pod on some species of Geranium which look like the bill of crane when unopened.

The Rozanne geranium seems to be a cross breed between Geranium himalayense x Geranium wallichianum ‘Buxton’s Variety’. Despite its more ‘correct’ name of Geranium ‘Gerwat’ it is almost universally referred to as Geranium ‘Rozanne’, named after Rozanne Waterer in whose garden it was discovered. As a matter of fact, ‘Gerwat’ is a shortcut for Geranium Waterer.

It’s often confused with its cousin ‘Pelargonium’, which goes under the common name ‘florist’s geranium’.

Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

The Geranium Rozanne is the perfect plant for the front of a border, having a ground cover habit.

It prefers full sun, but it will be happy also in part shade. Plant in early spring to allow it to establish. Once established, all it needs is trim mid-summer to keep it in check. Cutting it back will encourage new growth to come through and a second flush of flowers all the way to mid-October.
