Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

Sedum spectabile ‘Hot Stuff’ is a compact, clump-forming perennial that grows up to 50cm in height and a similar spread. It thrives in full sun and well-drained, moderately fertile to poor soil; overly rich soil can lead to a lanky, open growth habit. This drought-tolerant plant features succulent green leaves that store water, allowing it to withstand dry periods once established.

To maintain its compact form and vigour, divide the plant every 3 to 4 years. After flowering, you can cut back the stems to maintain shape, or leave the seed heads for winter interest. ‘Hot Stuff’ is generally pest-free and attracts butterflies, making it an excellent choice for borders, containers, and mass plantings.

Expert Tip

Use gravel or stone mulch to enhance drainage and prevent moisture buildup around the crown. Organic mulches should be kept away from the plant's base to avoid rot.
