Ilex crenata ‘Glory Gem’ is a perfect plant for topiary with tiny evergreen glossy leaves that can take any amount of pruning. Hardy and able to tolerate most growing conditions it’s one of the best replacement for Box as the topiary plant of choice with pale green younger growth that makes a pleasing contrast with the older darker foliage.

Ilex crenata thrives in full sun to partial shade but dislikes clay soil. It needs good drainage and dislikes clay soil. They thrive in full sun to part shade but needs a site with good drainage. They are fully hardy, however potted plants may do better moved to a sheltered area during very harsh winds and extreme winter weather. Clip plants 1-2 times during the growing season to keep them looking good.
