Plant Biography
All Trachelospermum are native to South and East Asia. The generic name was created from the Greek words for ‘neck seed’, in reference to the shape of the plants’ seeds. Jasminoides means ‘looks like jasmine,’ as despite its very similar flowers and fragrance this plant is not actually related to the true jasmine species.
It is sometimes called ‘Trader’s Compass’ from an interesting old belief in Uzbekistan that the plant directed traders of good character in the right direction.
