Plant Biography
Feijoa sellowiana, sometimes listed as Acca sellowiana, is native to many South and Central American regions: southern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, Uraguay, northern Argentina, and Columbia.
They are grown commercially in their native range for their fruits, as well as New Zealand, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The fruit is usually sold local to the producers as it has a short shelf life and does not travel well, which might explain why it is rarely, if ever, found for sale in the UK.
The Pineapple Guava is drought tolerant and can thrive in many types of soil. It is ideal for use as a hedge or screen, and can be grown in containers. It is also a popular choice for bonsai.

Plant Trivia
The edible fruit is greenish-yellow in colour and has a sweet, juicy, pineapple-like flavour. The fruit can be eaten fresh, made into preserves, or used to make drinks, jellies, and desserts. However, due to the fact that it's prone to bruising, the fruit is rarely sold commercially except close to the growing sites.
Care & Size Guidance
Feijoa sellowiana, commonly known as pineapple guava, thrives in well-drained soil and full sun exposure, although it tolerates partial shade. Regular watering is essential during its early growth stages, ensuring adequate moisture until established. Once mature, it becomes fairly drought-tolerant. Pruning, mainly for shaping or thinning, can be done in late winter.
This evergreen shrub typically grows 1.5-2.5 metres in height and spread, forming a dense, multi-stemmed bush. Its edible, sweet-tart fruits and attractive, silvery-green foliage make it an excellent addition to gardens, serving both ornamental and culinary purposes.

Lovely feijoa plant that is nearly as tall as I am (I am 168cm tall; so much bigger than I was expecting).
It arrived in great condition having been carefully packaged and is covered in lots of new growth so is clearly in great health.
