Plant Biography
Loropetalum chinense is native to Japan and south-eastern Asia including southern China. It was introduced to UK in 1880.
In China, from where specimens in cultivation originate, this species is mainly or wholly confined to warm regions and low altitudes – hence needing winter protection in colder gardens. It might prove hardier if cultivars were developed from Japanese populations, which grow in harsher environments and may be hardier.
Expert Tip
Care & Size Guidance
Better for milder gardens, this will thrive in a sheltered sunny spot away from frost pockets and harsh winds. Loropetalum has few pests and requires no pruning except to maintain desired size.
Very impressed with the plant and the delivery service. Thank you.
