(31 customer reviews)

From: £49.95

Golden Crookstem Bamboo is often regarded as one of the most adaptable and impressive of all golden-caned bamboos. It features glossy light green leaves, with light green and golden streaked culms which emerge beautifully striped, and develop a magenta tint in the right lighting conditions.

The culms of Phyllostachys aureosucata ‘Aureoculis’ are generally very upright in growth, but the lower growth will sometimes appear with striking, strongly zig-zagged internodes.

Plant Biography

Native to East China, aureosulcata is an upright growing species of bamboo with a narrow stature that makes it perfect for use as a tall privacy screen in the garden.

The ‘Aureocaulis’ cultivar is the hardiest golden-caned bamboos. The culms of this cultivar take on a lemon yellow colour at sheath fall, the time when the new shoots reach their full height in late spring.

If positioned in full-sun the golden culms of aureosulcata will become lightly tinged with colour, the hue depending on the cultivar. For Aureocaulis this is a bright magenta tint.

Care & Size Guidance

Care & Size Guidance

Phyllostachys aureosulcata requires little to no maintenance, though if required the plant may be thinned out and spent canes can be cut back to the ground level.

This bamboo produces underground rhizomes which aid its spreading, meaning it requires the installation of root barrier to prevent it from becoming invasive.

A strong clump of golden canes of impressive height which will quickly establish itself in my garden along with bamboos previously supplied.

Spot on!
Great quality bamboo.

Somewhat disappointed. Approximately 7 of the strongest canes had been cut recently, far below the lowest height expected of 2metres. It was clear that these were fresh cuts and seemed unnecessary. It couldn’t have been due to transport logistics as not only were there higher canes left alone, they were cut lower than the 2m minimum which we paid for. The height was the main reason for purchase, so the unnecessary trimming is disappointing.

So far so good! A lovely healthy plant arrived on time. Now to see if it will grow and develop for me! Bought to block off views of the neighbouring farm yard.
