Plant Biography
‘Red Robin’ is a particularly robust and colourful cultivar selected in New Zealand for its bright scarlet new growth; rivalling Pieris for early spring colour but less fussy about soil requirements. It is a vigorous evergreen shrub that can be pruned into a compact and colourful hedge. Heads of creamy white flowers add to the show in late spring, just as the new foliage starts to lose its colour. Then prune it again after flowering for more red! Or, in a sunny spot, leave flowers to set bird friendly red berries.
